When you think of your beauty routine, what words come to mind? When I think of mine, the first thought that comes to mind is “hahaha…I’m sorry what? I’m lucky to get a shower every other day.” My routine consists of brushing my teeth and hopefully remembering to put on deodorant.
I actually love makeup and beauty products. I could just sit in front of my vanity and play with makeup all day if I had the time. But real life looks quite different now with a little one. Time in the morning is spent trying to make it out the door in a full outfit that doesn’t have spit up or drool somewhere on it. Realistically, I probably have about 10 minutes (maybe) to get ready. That means my routine is cut to the ESSENTIALS! And I do mean essentials; I’m talking two or three steps that might make me look and feel a little more put together.
These beauty products are my tried and true favorites. They are in rotation on a daily basis and always come to my rescue. If I have more time, I might put on some more makeup or do my hair. But on a normal day, it’s these bad boys that get me through. Moms juggle so many things and wear a dozen different hats throughout their day so having some go-to products can really make daily life a little easier.
Those dark circles aren’t going to just disappear. And neither are those sleepless nights. Concealer truly is a game changer when you’ve been up all night. It can brighten up your complexion and make you look more awake and refreshed (when we all know coffee gets the credit for that). Make sure you have a concealer with good coverage that matches your skin tone when that’s all you have time for.
Because who knows when you last washed your hair?! If I do nothing else, most of the time I will, at the very minimum, use dry shampoo. A can of dry shampoo can make that one shower last for a while! One time I told my husband that I didn’t know what I did before I discovered dry shampoo. His response, “didn’t you just shower more often?” Well yes…but my point is dry shampoo was made for busy moms!
Hormones anyone??! If I’m going to take the time to put on mascara, I don’t want it to run down my face if I have a breakdown in the middle of Target because I don’t know what size clothes to buy anymore. You never know when those mood swings will strike so you will want to be ready at any moment knowing you won’t have black streaks down your face afterward. Now you can cry whenever or wherever you want.
Makeup wipes save lives! The last thing I want to do at the end of the day is wash my face. But going to bed with makeup on is a big no-no. Breakouts are bad enough with the hormones and that time of the month so no need to make it worse. Always have some makeup wipes on hand that will take your makeup off and clean your face in a few seconds so you aren’t tempted to skip it. Trust me, it will feel good to have a clean face and clear skin!
Some days when all else fails, moisturizer might be all you can do. I try to moisturize my skin on a daily basis to keep it hydrated and protected with SPF. This helps my skin look better for the days when I do have time to do more. Keeping your skin healthy and clean will give you a fresh look no matter what you have time for.
Bonus tip: opt for a BB or CC cream if you want some other added skincare benefits or a tinted product that will provide light coverage by evening out your skin tone.
