Denim: Stay on Trend and Comfortable

We’ve partnered with our friends at Blond Genius to bring you fun, stylish, and mom-friendly fashion tips. The Bloomington Moms Blog team is stepping out to let Blond Genius owner, Katie Whitson, and her team of style experts show us how easy and flexible fashion can be for everyday moms.

While being a mom is one of the biggest blessings, it’s no stretch to say that raising kids can be a give and take. One thing that truly doesn’t have to be compromised though? Your style.

Jeans are by far the easiest way to stay on trend and stay comfortable as a mom. With fresh styles and cuts constantly coming out and classic looks to rely on; there is literally something for everyone.

When it comes to denim, figuring out which cuts fit best on can be overwhelming to say the least. No worries though, we’ve got you covered. These five high-waisted (but, not your mom’s high-waisted) jeans and universally flattering fits will keep everything in its place and help keep you looking stylish.

Slightly Distressed

Mother Denim

Just because you’re a mom doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice being trendy. While gaping holes may not be the most practical for grabby hands and bending over to scoop up little ones, there are other ways to get the roughed-up look that is oh-so-hot right now. The slight distressing and faded wash of this jean is an easy way to get the look without the hazard.

Classic Blue

AG Denim

Nothing can or will ever beat a pair of classic blues. No rips, no frills, no drama. This darker wash allows for easy transitional dressing. Wear them during the day with a pair of sneakers to run errands, than throw on a pair of heels for the (rare) date night with the hubby. For work, you can dress them up with a cute blouse, blazer, and heels, then transition to sneakers and a cute tee for a busy evening with the whole family.

Must Have Black

Citizens of Humanity

A pair of great black jeans is possibly one of the most necessary items in any women’s closet. As with dark wash denim, you can easily dress them up or down!

Universally Flattering

Frame Denim

Say hello to the most universally flattering, easy to wear, and look like you tried (without actually trying) pair of jeans. As we all know, putting together something we feel both comfortable and fashionable in can be asking a lot when our time is limited. Throw on these cropped jeans with a sweater and pair of mules, and you’re ready for anything!

Winter White

Mother Denim

Yes, winter is quickly approaching, but don’t disregard this jean just because of their color. Putting away your white jeans after Labor Day is a thing of the past! This is 2017 ladies – and it’s all about the winter whites. Dress these down with a denim jacket and sneakers or spruce it up with a sweater and some booties.

Versatile Blue

Mother Denim

And for extra emphasis – you can’t go wrong with a classic blue wash. Dress these up or down. Wear them for summer or winter. These jeans are a real winner when it comes to versatility.

BMB’s Favorite

April, Alycia, and Lynsey love everything about these high-waisted jeans! Initially they were each surprised to hear the word “high-waisted,” but these are not to be confused with the high-waisted cuts from our childhood. The new high-waisted styles are perfect for everyone and hug your figure in all of the right places. Plus, you don’t have to worry about pulling up your jeans before you swoop down to grab a darting little one. Everything stays right in place!
