If you would have asked me five years ago what I would be doing in 2018, I most definitely would not have said, “Professional blogging and business ownership!” But, here I am. And, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

You see, I spent nearly nine years of motherhood longing for a way to connect with local moms and with my community, but I didn’t have time. I was a full-time working mom of one, then two, then three active children, in a demanding job that I loved. There was zero time for anything else other than work and family. But, I wanted more.

To be honest, I was waiting for someone else to solve my problem.

So many times I would wonder why there weren’t more after work meet-up groups or evening “mommy and me” events. I wanted my church to fix the problem. I wanted my community to acknowledge that working moms need that stuff, too!

As an IU alum and a Bloomington transplant, I couldn’t figure out why it was so hard to connect in my community or to find information about the latest events and children’s activities. I complained a lot, and I kept wishing that someone would take the bull by the horns and fix it. Someone out there would make my life easier, right? They would help me connect with other local moms while delivering a perfectly-curated community calendar of events and after-school activities. After all, I was just too busy!

And then it hit me.

No, I wasn’t enlightened, and nothing magically clicked. It was my husband, my best friend, who gave voice to my next step. ”Why don’t you do something about it yourself,” he said.

Ouch.

And, he was absolutely right. His words were the wake-up call I needed. After all, I was the dreamer, the creative one, the marketer, and the one with the entrepreneurial spirit. I had to stop waiting for things to get better and step up to make change happen to make a difference for moms like me. I was ready and excited to get moving!

From that point forward everything started to fall into place.

It was almost as if the pieces to the puzzle were there all along; I just couldn’t see them through the fog and haze of complaining that clouded my thoughts.

There are so many details behind the Bloomington Moms Blog story, my story, and how all of this came to be. However, the most important takeaway is this: we are just getting started. Bloomington Moms Blog is in its infancy, and this is just the beginning of something truly beautiful that we are working hard to build for you.
