We finally have warm weather, schools out and we want to help your family enjoy all that Bloomington has to offer. We’ve gathered some of our favorite events for you…so grab your sunscreen and experience Bloomington!

Anything on Wheels Memorial Day Car Show

Location: 10 E. Washington St, Martinsville, IN 46151
Admission
: Free
Hours: 7:00 am – 2:00 pm

The Anything on Wheels Memorial Day Car Show, held May 28th on the square in downtown Martinsville. Registration and parking starts at 7 am. No early arrivals will be parked. Awards at 2 pm with 46 ‘parts’ trophies awarded. 250 dash plaques to the first registerd. A portion of our proceeds is always donated to our local veterans.

Bikes Month Family Ice Cream Ride

Bryan Park
Parking lot next to Allen Street

Hours: 5:30 – 8:30 pm

I ride, you ride, we all ride for ice cream!

Co-hosted by Monroe County Transportation Alternatives, City of Bloomington Planning and Transportation Department, and IU Bikes.

We invite people of all ages to join our concluding event for Bike Month. From 5:30-6:30pm, test ride and learn about family bicycling from local experts.

We will depart from the Bryan Park Parking Lot on Henderson Street at 6:30pm for a family-friendly group ride to The Chocolate Moose (405 S. Walnut). The route will be announced here in advance of the ride.

As always, safe riding is encouraged, including use of helmets, lights and reflectors, and light colored clothing.

This ride has been organized by IU_Bikes, the City of Bloomington, and Monroe County.

Limestone Comedy Festival

The Limestone Comedy Festival is an annual three day comedy festival that takes place the first weekend of June in beautiful Bloomington, IN. LCF was founded in 2013 by Mat Alano-Martin and Jared Thompson and made possible through the support of their friends and family, sponsors, partner venues, and the best comedy fans in the world.

Monroe County Civic Theater presents William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest”

MCCT invites you to join us for our Annual Shakespeare in the park, including the debut of our children’s program who will be doing our pre-show, “Tempest in a Teacup.” Thursday-Saturday Tempest in a Teacup – 6:45pm The Tempest – 7:00pm Sunday Tempest in a Teacup – 2:45pm The Tempest – 3:00pm The Sunday Matinée will be a relaxed Dementia friendly and sensory-friendly performance.

Youth Fishing Derby

Youth Fishing Derby from 8 to 10 a.m.
Please check in no later than 9:15 a.m.!

Location: Fishing Pier, located across the road from the Swimming Beach in Paynetown SRA

Cast a line and catch a fish! Kids, ages 16 and under, are invited to participate in this free fishing derby. Borrow our equipment or bring your own; bait will be provided. A prize drawing will be held at 10 a.m. for all participants! New and beginning anglers are welcome; instructors will be on hand to teach the basics and offer assistance.

WTIU is joining the City of Bloomington’s HAND (Housing and Neighborhood Development) Department for the 2018 Blooming Neighborhood Celebration!
This free event will take place Saturday, June 2, during the Farmers Market from 10am-12pm. Come celebrate Bloomington’s Bicentennial with its various neighborhoods and the 50th anniversary of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood with HAND and WTIU!
Neighborhood displays, resources, photo booth, and more.

Bloomington Handmade Market

The Bloomington Handmade Market kicks off the summer with its first Summer Fair on June 2, 2018 from 10a-5p on the North Side of the Square (6th St between College and Walnut) in downtown Bloomington. BHM will host 40+ independent makers featuring indie and contemporary crafts; screen printed tees, bath & body items, plush, kids’ items, housewares, woodwork, jewelry, accessories, illustrations & SO MUCH MORE! Cardinal Spirits will be there slinging spirits (ID required of course!). Free to attend. Super fun for the whole family.

Nature Play Day: Play Passport Challenge!

Hours: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Bring your willingness to play – and a digital camera! Pick up your Play Passport at the Activity Center (Paynetown SRA) beginning at 10 a.m., complete as many activities as you can before 4 p.m. (documenting each one with a photo), and then return to the Activity Center by 5 p.m. to claim a certificate and prize.

Get up close and personal with fire trucks, ambulances, buses, bucket trucks, and more at the 18th annual Touch a Truck. Join us throughout the summer at our Moms Connect: Mid-Week Meet-Ups. We’ve partnered with our friends at Chick-fil-A to provide local moms with a great opportunity to connect with other moms in a fun and cool space that kids of all ages love.
 
Each event will be hosted at Chick-fil-A Bloomington East. Be sure to mention BMB when joining us at Chick-fil-A for a special treat.

Lemonade Day Monroe County 

Lemonade Day Monroe County teaches youth goal setting, problem solving and serving others while gaining self-esteem, using a simple lemonade stand! Kids and their mentors receive a free workbook and t-shirt, educational workshop opportunities and other supplies, at no charge.

Lemonade Day is a fun way for youth to explore entrepreneurship, gain confidence and develop basic customer service skills. Each young entrepreneur is encouraged to spend a little, save a little and share a little of his or her profits.

Lemonade Day Monroe County empowers young people, through the experience of operating lemonade stands, to learn entrepreneurship, to build financial literacy, and to trust in their ability to make a difference in their own lives and in their community.

Backyard Beach Party

The Banneker backyard becomes the neighborhood super sunny beach! Preschoolers can make a castle in the sand, keep cool in the sprinkler, and have fun with beach toys!

36th Annual Taste of Bloomington

Admission: $7 advance, $10 at the gate, Children under 12 get in free

The Taste of Bloomington is an annual celebration of Bloomington’s wide variety of unique dining experiences. Over 40 restaurants are on site with specialties for you to sample, and local beer and wine products will also be available for purchase. Food items range from down-home Hoosier favorites to international cuisine, with everything in between.

Taste of Bloomington also features live performances from local and regional bands throughout the evening, as well as children’s activities. Entertainment is free.

There are three admission gates; one on the south entrance, west entrance east of Rogers St. and a north entrance on North Morton St.

38th Annual Arts Fair on the Square!

A Bloomington tradition, Arts Fair on the Square celebrates 38 years of bringing visual artists and craftspeople together with the local and regional community. This juried art show features over 100 regional and national artists and craftspeople on the picturesque grounds surrounding the Monroe County Courthouse. The mission of Arts Fair on the Square is to showcase fine art and craft of the highest quality, connect artists with the art-buying community, and promote commitment to the arts through a variety of interactive arts experiences. For over thirty-seven years, Arts Fair on the Square has been one of the premier annual events in Bloomington, Indiana, earning appreciation from artists from all over the country and patrons from all over Indiana and beyond for its commitment to quality. In addition to featuring a wide variety of amazing artists, Arts Fair on the Square also includes an Interactive Art Center, a Children’s Art Center, and entertainment from local artists including dancers and musicians throughout the day. Arts Fair on the Square draws thousands of visitors to downtown Bloomington to experience the finest the visual arts has to offer while sharing the Hoosier hospitality that makes Arts Fair on the Square a favorite among artists and art patrons alike.
